Best Hot Cocoa EVER

imageI won’t lie. This Tennessee girl is stupid excited about the 6 inches of snow that we got over the last 24 hours. We seem to only get a “good” snow (meaning: one we can actually play in and enjoy, rather than one that just makes a big, slushy, sloppy, muddy, mess) once every 5 years or so. Since I enjoy winter anyway, snow just makes me happy.

This morning after an hour of playing in it, I decided to make homemade hot cocoa, and like most recipes, I just made it up as I went. It turned out to be AMAZING, so I had to share my recipe:
6 cups milk (a little more or less won’t hurt.)

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa

1/3 cup sugar

2 tbs salted butter (my excuse was the fact that I was using skim milk, but let’s be real here, I would have put the butter in it anyway. )

1 tsp pure vanilla extract (Please don’t use the imitation stuff. Just don’t.)

1 to 2 tsp ground cinnamon (more or less to taste)

Combine milk, cocoa, and sugar in a saucepan on the stovetop. Heat over medium heat, whisking constantly. Once the cocoa starts to combine with the milk, add the butter. (Stir with one hand, add ingredients with the other. šŸ˜Š) Let the butter begin to melt, then add vanilla and cinnamon. Heat until it’s just shy of a boil. (Don’t let it come to boil though!)

Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon. (Or marshmallows, if that’s how you roll.)

Enjoy, and bask in the creamy goodness!
